Ignorance is bliss

We were wandering down the double track that passed as a road, and I was spending my time enjoying the sight of the sun beaming through the trees.  But, as I pondered the rays of light cutting through the shade, I swore I could hear a rumble that sounded almost like interstate traffic in the distance. We continued to walk towards the town at the base of the volcano, and it got louder. Then it dawned on me, and I scrambled to find an opening in the trees for a view.

It would have been several times further to backtrack, and we needed food from the town, so we pressed on.
